About me

I am a second year graduate student at the
Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University and the CERNET. I am currently working at the New Generation Network Laboratory (NGN Lab) under the direction of Prof. Xing Li. I will get my Master's degree in July, 2005.

I received my B.S degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2003.

Research

Roughly, networking research has two flavors: "system design" and "network theory". The research I enjoy most is a combination of these two, that is, I like to pursue high-impact, innovative research on networks and distributed systems to tackle real world problems, while adopting a style that strikes a balance between system building, and addressing fundamental scientific issues within it.

Currently, my primary research interests include:

  • Wide area networking, including Internet architecture and protocol design, routing algorithms, measurement and performance evaluation, network modeling and simulation/emulation
  • Distributed systems, including the art and science of designing, deploying, and operating of distributed systems themselves, as well as building scalable and secure network service infrastructure upon them (e.g., peer-to-peer content delivery network)
  • Last but not least, I have a long-term interest in the intersection of networking and economics and society. Drawing upon the insights of economics and society can help us better position research on networking to make an impact on our everyday lives.

  • My life

Research is part of my life, but not all.

In my spare time, I am a big fan of many sports: basketball, football, volleyball, swimming, tennis, bowling, shuffleboard, ... In 2001, my partner and I won the champion of the Men's Badminton Doubles of Tsinghua University!

I am also a lover of travel and hiking. I've been to Japan (Osaka, Gifu, Tokyo), Thailand (Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket Island), Korea (Seoul, Busan), and many beautiful places in my motherland - China (the Great Wall, the Mount Huangshan, Shangri_la, Ancient Town of Lijiang, the Snow Mount Yulong, Jinan, Kunming, Dali, Guilin, and of course, my hometown Hangzhou).

So, go and check out what I do when I'm not working...
